PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

The late Mitch Malone, a popular Richmond radio host, was laid to rest Saturday.

Loved ones were joined by the community and his fans at Gillfield Baptist Church in Petersburg to say goodbye.

His dearest friends say he will be missed. At 57-years-old, Malone's life was cut short. He died of natural causes and at the church, friends shared with each other, the good memories

"One of my favorite memories about Mitch, is when you called his cell phone, you would hear the message say, 'you know who it is, and you know what to do' that was Mitch Malone," said friend Kevin Bledsoe.

Malone hosted the popular, Quiet Storm on KISS FM and he was the original voice of the Richmond area's first urban radio station, Magic 99.

"Mitch was always on the top, in terms of ratings for the station and we were very proud of that," said Bledsoe.

And though many believe he was silenced too soon, friends say his legacy is lasting.

"He was just loved by everybody, and we love him," said friend, Michael Johnson.

"He was a great soul, had a lot of impact and a love for Petersburg," said Bledsoe.

And it was that impact that packed the pews at Gillfield Baptist Church, so family, friends, and a community could say one last goodbye to the voice of Richmond.

"He was a loving caring person, a passionate person, and loved people, and the most thing I'm going to miss about Mitch is the Quiet Storm," said Johnson.
