Flex Systems provide company with private, public and hybrid cloud options
ZAGREB, Croatia, Dec. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Terrakom, a Croatian telecommunication services provider focused on hosting and cable-based telecommunication services, has deployed IBM Flex Systems to provision private, public and hybrid cloud infrastructures. Its clients span a broad range - from big retail chains and insurance companies to universities and individual subscribers.
The new systems will improve the quality of Terrakom's cloud environment, help the company enter a new market segment and meet increasing client demands for services delivered through the cloud. The IBM Flex System will also help to ensure uninterrupted operation of all system components and significantly reduce Terrakom's energy consumption.
IBM Flex Systems are designed to provide easy implementation of cloud applications. As a result, since deployment Terrakom has been able to deliver applications within four minutes of a client service request, effectively making the company into an IaaS services provider as well.
"Earlier this year we entered a market segment which is new for us - managed server and web hosting services. To tap the growth opportunities in this area and after a thorough testing process we selected IBM Flex System. We put a special focus on IBM's advanced system management features, energy and space savings," said Andrej Kalanovic, member of Management Board, Terrakom. "With the new IT infrastructure, we reduced our hardware inventory by 60 percent and increased our efficiency by 35 percent."
Terrakom will utilize part of the new system as a voice platform, while the other will be used in combination with new IBM Flex System to strengthen Terrakom's capabilities to design and offer new cloud based services faster to the market. The company has established a new dedicated brand for these new private, pubic and hybrid cloud offerings - INSIDE Cloud.
Along with IBM Flex System, Terrakom deployed the IBM Storwize v3700 data storage system, complementing its existing IBM infrastructure that has been in use since 2010.
Established in 2010 in Croatia and based in Zagreb, Terrakom is a telecommunication services provider and operator of a Terrakom cable TV. It has entered the Croatian server and web hosting market earlier this year when it acquired two local firms. Today Terrakom operates a complete process of providing managed IT - from internet, telephony and digital television to cloud hosting and IT infrastructure services.
In addition to Flex Systems, IBM Systems and Technology Group offers a full range of offerings supporting public, private and hybrid cloud implementations that integrate with IBM's cloud software and services. This Systems portfolio includes IBM System x racks and BladeCenter, NeXtScale, PureFlex, Power Systems and System z servers, and IBM Storage solutions.
The IBM Flex System goes beyond competitor's blade configurations and provides the building-block elements for IBM PureSystems. IBM Flex Systems are built-to-order offerings for clients who want to custom build and tune configurations to their specific requirements. This allows them to select the specific compute, systems networking and optional storage and management required to support their specific workloads.
Since the systems were launched in April 2012, more than 8,000 clients from 100 countries have selected IBM PureSystems.
