NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Another member of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners is considering a congressional campaign.

Woody White, chairman of the board, said Monday that dozens of people have asked him to challenge incumbent Mike McIntyre, a Democrat who's represented the 7th District since 1997.

White is strongly considering a campaign because he said the district needs a "fresh, new voice".

But if he enters the race, White would likely face David Rouzer in the Republican primary. Rouzer lost to McIntyre in the last election by less than 700 votes.

Earlier this year, fellow commissioner Jonathan Barfield announced his challenge to McIntyre on the Democratic side. White said their campaigns would not distract from their roles as county leaders.

"We both agree on one thing and that's the need to replace Mike McIntyre," said White.

White said he expects to make a decision before the end of January.
