Lee announces plans to run for Goolsby's seat in NC Senate

WILMINGTON NC (WECT) – Attorney Michael Lee of Wilmington confirmed Wednesday he plans to run for the District 9 seat in the North Carolina Senate currently held by Sen. Thom Goolsby.

Lee is a member of the NC Board of Transportation and the Vice-Chairman for the NC Ports Authority.

He ran unsuccessfully twice for the District 9 seat, losing by 60-40 margin to Goolsby in the 2010 GOP primary, and by a 52-48 margin to former Sen. Julia Boseman in the 2008 General Election.

Lee is also listed as Assistant Treasurer on New Hanover County Commissioners' Chairman Woody White's Congressional Campaign.

"I am deeply moved and grateful for the many, many phone calls and messages of encouragement for me to seek this solemn responsibility delegated by the voters to represent our region," Lee commented in an email news release. "I will campaign for this responsibility in the same way I would serve District 9, with tenacity, dedication and integrity."

According to Lee's campaign,  former NC Representative Danny McComas is endorsing Lee, along with Rep. Ted Davis (R-NC 19). The campaign also says Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) contacted Lee asking him to run for Goolsby's seat, along with state Sen. Harry Brown (R-Onslow) and Sen. Bill Rabon (R-Brunswick).
