DEFIANCE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine visited law enforcement leaders in Defiance Tuesday to discuss some of his new anti-crime initiatives.

Members of the sheriff's department, police department and prosecutor's office all spent time with the attorney general. He stopped in Defiance to learn what types of crime they see most often and how he can help.

One of the major issues law enforcement leaders across the state say they see is a spike in heroin use and overdoses.

"We have a heroin epidemic in this state. It truly is an epidemic. We lost about 900 people last year, who died in a overdose of heroin alone. It is now in Defiance, Paulding. It is in every county," said DeWine.

DeWine also spent time explaining new initiatives from his office, including opening unsolved sexual assault cases and cracking down on crimes against children, especially child pornography.
