BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A woman from Wilmington was killed Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a car on Highway 211 near the St. James community.

According to Trooper K.E. Herring with Highway Patrol, 39-year-old Sonia Vowls, from Wilmington, was traveling west on 211 on her Harley Davidson motorcycle around 2:30 p.m. when she was hit by a Volkswagen that crossed over the center line.

Vowls died at the scene.

Herring said Kevin Zell, of Southport, was driving the Volkswagen. He was taken to the hospital with significant injuries.

According to Herring, alcohol did not play a factor. Zell is being charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
