(FOX) – It was a hijacking with no weapons, no demands and no violence. The co-pilot of an Ethiopian Airlines plane landed in Geneva after taking control of a Rome-bound flight mid-air.

Shaky cell phone video shows anxious passengers sitting in their seats while oxygen masks hang from the ceiling, and a voice speaks over the loudspeaker.

The flight originated from the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa and was carrying more than 200 passengers and crew.

While flying over Italy, the co-pilot locked his captain out of the cockpit and commandeered the plane to Geneva, terrifying passengers as the plane dove and careened across the sky.

According to a witness, the co-pilot even threatened to crash the plane if the pilot didn't stop pounding on the locked door.

Upon landing, the co-pilot used a rope to lower himself out of a window before asking for asylum.

None of the passengers were hurt.

The hijacker remains in police custody
