Scary moments for students and parents at Hanover's Cold Harbor Elementary School Friday after a threatening note is found on a school bus.
Josh is just one of many parents outraged after a security scare at Cold Harbor Elementary left his daughter and others barred from the school without immediate notice to parents.
"We had no notification at all, she went to take her to school this morning and that is how she found out, through the police officer," said Josh.
Shannon Van Fossen didn't get an alert either.
"My mom actually emailed me about it because she had read it on the web site because she had seen it and came to me about it," Van Fossen said.
We took their concerns to the Hanover County school system. we were given this message:
"We communicated with parents immediately after we were able to gather the facts from the Hanover County sheriff's office following their investigation."
Parents tell us there children were made to wait on school buses along cold harbor road while authorities checked the school for anything out of the ordinary"
Elise Douglas chose not to keep her children home from school today
"We really just had faith that they knew how they were handling it that we had faith in the police going through and plus the secretary said it was business as usual and everything was find."
The sheriff's office says the school was placed on lock down. The school system points out, no students were inside the school when the note was found.
Shannon says at the end of the day she's thankful all of the students are safe.
"The kids were kept safe. I think they did a great job," Van Fossen said.
