TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Pima County Sheriff's Department is alerting the public about a scam involving a man impersonating a law enforcement officer.

According to PCSD the suspect calls victims using the name Lt. Brown, telling potential victims they have fines for unpaid tickets, outstanding warrants or they have missed jury duty.  The suspect tells the victims a warrant will be issued if payments are not taken care of immediately.

Victims are told to purchase a Green Dot card for the amount owed and call 'Lt. Brown' back to provide the number on the back of the card.  According to PCSD the phone number goes to a pre-paid cellular in Casa Grande.

Last week PCSD officials received numerous reports about the scam.  PCSD is advising the following tips -

Do not give out personal information over the phone.

Contact PCSD to see if someone called you.

PCSD does not collect fines for unpaid tickets.

For those who believe they are a victim of this scam, call 9-1-1 and make a report.
