RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Hundreds of college cyclists will take to the streets from Monument Avenue to Shockoe Bottom May 2 – 4, all part of USA Cycling's Collegiate Road National Championships.

The upcoming race will prepare the City for next year, when Richmond hosts the even larger cycling event, the 2015 UCI Road World Championships.

In a news conference Thursday, Richmond Police and cycling organizers announced the multitude of streets that will close, with three races taking place over three days.

"The Collegiate race will be the largest event the City and Richmond Police will have ever managed," said Cpt. Will Smith in an interview Thursday. "We are prepared."
