COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY FORECAST FOR THE 2014 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON calls for nine total named storms, three hurricanes, and one major hurricane (slightly below-average).
REASONS FOR A POSSIBLY BELOW-AVERAGE SEASON include cooler-than-average water temperatures in key portions of the Atlantic and an expected El Nino in the Pacific (the latter tends to generate Atlantic wind shear - hostile to hurricanes).
PREPARE JUST THE SAME: Regardless of any forecast for a below-average hurricane season, we advise you prepare for hurricane season (June 1 - November 30) just the same!
