SCA on way to first state title game

Posted: Updated:

For the first time in school history, the Sherwood Christian Lady Eagles will play for the state soccer championship.

SCA shut out the defending state champs, First Presbyterian, 2-0, Tuesday to earn their spot in this weekend's title game.

The game was tied at half, but the Lady Eagles scored a quick goal to take the lead.

SCA kept the offensive pressure on the Lady Highlanders for most of the second half, but were unable to break through again until Kylee Harrod put it on ice with three minutes to play.

"We said before the game we can't let them outwork us, because if they outwork us, that's all they need to win," says Harrod.

Now the Lady Eagles turn their attention to the program's first title game, where they'll play 2013 state runner-up Monsignor Donovan.

Head coach Jason Schultz says the only way to top the excitement of the semifinal win is to win the next game.

"It's hard to believe we got one more. It's a great thing," he says. "I've coached a lot of these girls now for six or seven years, and it's well deserved and I'm so excited for them."

SCA plays the Lady Rams for the state title Saturday at Frederica.
