TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A bicyclist died after being struck by a car this morning on Tucson's west side.

The driver of the car, 25-year-old Gerardo Cazares, was taken into custody and police said detectives determined drugs were a factor in the incident.

According to a witness at the scene, the car allegedly ran a red light, hit the woman on the bicycle and then veered to the right, hitting a parked car.  The accident happened shortly before 6 a.m.

Tucson police closed Speedway in both directions from North Main Avenue to Interstate 10. The road was reopened at about 11 a.m.

The woman, identified as 38-year-old Chris Lee Chambers, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Authorities booked Cazares into the Pima County Jail on charges of second degree murder and criminal damage.
