A memorial service was held at the Hall of Flame museum in Phoenix on Saturday honoring the 19 fallen Granite Mountain hot shots.
The Yarnell Hill Fire started June 28, 2013. It killed the 19 Granite Mountain Hot Shots on June 30. The fire was finally contained July 10.
As the one-year anniversary approaches, dozens of family and friends paid their respects to the victims, including Juliann Ashcraft, the widow of Andrew Ashcraft.
"It's been rough to manage what normal is like now," she said. "Nothing quite seems to feel as lively or as fun as it used to with him here. But I will say that the family members that we lost in the fire - we've gained family. We've gained family in the fire community and there are 18 other families similar to mine so I've gotten to know them."
The event Saturday was one of many planned over the next few weeks.
